MetaMask Rewards
For thirty million people, MetaMask is the everything crypto wallet for buying, swapping, staking, trading, and spending. When Consensys decided to reward users for all that activity, the question wasn't whether to build a loyalty system. It was how to make one worth returning to every day. While rewards in a dashboard are nice, they don’t keep you coming back. An immersive world does.
After reframing from progress tracker to explorable universe, we had a creative thread to pull. The MetaMask team had a 3D illustration system in development, characters and environments with real personality. Once we saw those characters, the concept locked in. Instead of tiers, we'd build worlds. Seven of them, each one a different reality your character moves through as you earn.
The worlds run from Genesis to Utopia. Genesis opens on a landscape built around a tree of life — an invitation, clearly a beginning. Frontier is a lush fantasy forest, a step up but still familiar ground. Chroma is where the user first feels the shift: a new environment inspired by the Roman Empire, and the character's outfit changes for the first time.
From there, the worlds become entirely new realities. Oceania is underwater. Nexus is a cyberpunk city. Titana is space. Utopia, the hardest tier to reach, makes your character a ruler of the MetaMask world.
Nearly every asset was built in Cinema 4D and rendered in Octane. Characters were rigged from scratch, outfits designed and animated for each level. The icon kit runs to fifty-plus pieces: reward types, quest categories, and miniature versions of each world so users can see exactly what they're working toward.
For the miniatures, we built the geometry by hand and generated textures using AI tools fed reference images of the full-scale environments. Precision where it mattered. Assistance where it didn't.
The experience lives across three surfaces. The web app carries the core mechanics. A new page inside MetaMask's existing mobile product brought game-like interactions into a mature design system, supporting light and dark themes, working within real performance constraints, without feeling out of place. The marketing page closes with something more considered than a standard call to action: a full character creation experience in the footer. Visitors configure their avatar and step into the world before committing to anything. By the time they reach the button, they're already inside.
